Hours after announcing the cancellation on Tuesday of one of several prequels to Game of Thrones, HBO announced it has officially ordered 10 episodes of a GoT prequel called: House of The Dragon, according to several entertainment outlets.
The new prequel is a co-creation of author George R.R. Martin and Ryan Condal, who is set to be the series showrunner.
House of The Dragon is based on George R.R. Martin’s book Fire & Blood; which recounts a history of the Targaryen taking place at roughly 300 years before the era we all recently witnessed in Game of Thrones. House of The Dragon also leads to chains of events which will eventually lead to what is known as the Targaryen civil war; which takes place between two rival houses in the seven kingdoms, subsequently leading to the events of The Dance of The Dragons. HBO released a poster showing the same dramatic illustration we saw in the posters of the past series, along with the tagline: “Fire Will Reign.”
